Set warehouse operating rules and client overrides

  • How-to
  • Warehouses
  • Who can do this: Admin, Warehouse Manager, Account Manager
  • Checked on 28 October 2026

Set each warehouse's standard cut-off, stock rotation and outbound rules from a date, see which clients follow them, and give a client its own.

In short

Go to Warehouses › Warehouses and, in the warehouse's row, select Actions, then Operating rules. Select Change standards, set the rules and when they start, check which clients follow them, and select Record version.

Before you start

You need to be a Warehouse Manager or an Admin to change a warehouse's standards. Everyone else on your staff can read them. A client's own Client Overrides are set by an Account Manager or an Admin, on the client's Client 360.

A client follows each of the warehouse's standards unless it has a Client Override for that rule. So changing a standard changes it for every client that follows it.

Steps

Change the warehouse's standards

  1. Go to Warehouses › Warehouses. In the warehouse's row, select Actions, then Operating rules. The page lists the standards in force now, and any change already scheduled beside them.
  2. Select Change standards. The form opens with the latest standards.
  3. In Effective from, keep now or choose a later date and time.
  4. Change the rules you need, such as Same-Day Dispatch Cut-Off to 13:30.
  5. Read Clients this change reaches, which names the clients following each changed standard.
  6. Optionally, enter a Note on why the standards change.
  7. Select Record version.

Each change is the next numbered version, and earlier versions are never edited. A date in the past is refused:

Operating rules cannot take effect in the past: choose now or a later date.

A version that changes nothing is refused too:

Nothing changed: a new version must change at least one standard.

Give a client its own rule

  1. Account Manager or Admin only: go to Clients and select the client.
  2. Under Operating rules, select Schedule a change, and set the rule to Client Override with the client's value. See Set a client's operating rules.

A Client Override applies at every warehouse that does the client's work. Batch Size, Cart Size, Weight Check Tolerance and Idle Limit are the warehouse's alone, with no Client Override.

The rules

A warehouse with no version of its own has the starting standards below. Each rule's Glossary Entry, such as Stock Rotation Policy or Same-Day Dispatch Cut-Off, says more.

Rule Starting standard What it decides
Stock Rotation Policy FIFO Which units an order takes
Same-Day Dispatch Cut-Off 14:00 The time before which an order ships the same day
Ship-By Rule 0 Ship Days How many Ship Days after acceptance an order must ship
Partial Shipments Off Whether a short order ships what it has and backorders the rest
Dedicated Batching Off Whether a client's orders stay off pick lists shared with other clients
QA Required Off Whether every order is QA checked before packing
Capture Point At pick Where lots and serial numbers are scanned on the way out
Red Tag Hold Period 2 working days How long a red tagged order is held
Quarantine on Receipt Off Whether every delivery goes into quarantine
Single-Client Storage Rule Off Whether the client's stock shares a location with other clients'
Batch Size 30 orders How many single-unit orders one Batch List holds
Cart Size 12 totes How many totes the picker's cart is offered
Weight Check Tolerance 10% How far a parcel's weight may differ before the packer checks it
Idle Limit 10 minutes The longest gap counted as Task Time

What happens next

The new standards take effect at their date with nothing more to do. Until then the page shows the next version beside the standards in force, with its changes highlighted.

The change goes in the Warehouse history, and in the history of each client that follows it. Clients see their own rules and where each comes from, but never the warehouse-only rules.

Orders already accepted keep the rules they were accepted under: see Rules frozen at acceptance. Rules used from release on, such as Partial Shipments and QA Required, are read when each order is released.
