Set up a Container Type for each kind of pallet, tote or roll cage you use, so the dock can receive stock into them.
In short
By the end of this step, each kind of pallet, tote or cage you use is a Container Type. Stock Containers, Container Types and loose stock explains how containers hold stock.
Decide first
- Each type's Barcode Prefix. Every container of the type is numbered from it, such as
PAL-000001. A prefix belongs to one type, and its numbers never start again. Choose short capitals, such asPALfor pallets andTOTfor totes. - Its Mixing Policy. It decides whether one container can hold several products, or several clients' stock. For pallets, Multiple SKUs Permitted works well.
Checklist
- Set up a Container Type for each kind you use with Set up a Container Type and its barcode prefix, such as UK Pallet with prefix
PAL. The dock opens new containers from these types. - Bring containers into service and print their labels with Create containers and print their labels, for any your team fills away from the dock. At the dock, scanning
NEW-PALnumbers a new pallet for you.
What happens next
You're done when your types show in Stock Containers › Container Types, each with its Next Barcode, such as PAL-000001.
