Getting-started Path: step 3 of 15

Build your warehouse

Add your warehouse, its zones, a location for each dock door and your racking and shelving, ready to label.

In short

By the end of this step, your warehouse has its zones and locations, from the dock doors to the racking. How a warehouse is laid out in Stockist explains how they fit together.

Decide first

  • The Warehouse Code. It starts every location's full code and every delivery's number. Once a delivery is booked in under it, it can never change. Keep it short, such as COL for Colwick.
  • The Code Style of your racking. The codes go on the labels, so changing them later means relabelling. For a first set-up, Short codes such as A1A1 work well.

Checklist

  1. Add your warehouse and its zones with Add a warehouse and its zones, such as Goods In, Pallet Racking and Pick Faces. Do this first, because locations sit in zones.
  2. Add a location for each dock door with Add or change a location, such as DOCK-01, choosing Staging Area. Deliveries can only be marked arrived at one.
  3. Create your racking and shelving in one go with Create many locations at once. Run one batch for each zone and Location Type.

What happens next

You're done when your locations show in Warehouses › Locations, such as COL-GI-DOCK-01 and COL-PR-A1A1.
