Add or change a location

- Who can do this: Admin, Warehouse Manager
- Checked on 27 October 2026
Add a single location, such as a dock door or a quarantine location, or change a location's type, capacity, hazard compliance and Mixing Policy.
In short
Go to Warehouses › Locations and select New Location, or select Actions, then Edit, in a location's row. Set its Location Type, Mixing Policy, capacity and switches, then save.
Before you start
You need to be an Admin or a Warehouse Manager. If you don't see New Location, ask an Admin.
The warehouse and zone must exist first. For racking and shelving, create many locations at once instead.
Steps
Add a location
- Go to Warehouses › Locations and select New Location.
- Choose the Warehouse and Zone. Choose an Aisle, Rack and Shelf only for a location in racking.
- Enter the Code, such as
DOCK-05, and a Name, such asDock door 5. The code must be new in its zone. - Enter the same code in Barcode, so the label you print scans as this location.
- Choose the Location Type and Mixing Policy. A type that rules out picking, putaway or allocation greys out those switches.
- Under Lifecycle & Operational Capabilities, set Can Pick, Can Putaway, Is Allocatable and Hazard Compliant.
- Under Capacity & Dimensions, enter Width (mm), Height (mm), Depth (mm) and Max Weight (kg). Max Volume (m³) fills in from the sizes.
- If pickers walk to it, enter its Pick Sequence. You can't change it later.
- Select Create. The location shows in the list with its Full Location Code.
Give a dock door the Location Type Staging Area. A delivery can be marked arrived only at a Staging Area, never at a Receiving Dock.
Change a location
- Go to Warehouses › Locations and search for the location by its code.
- In its row, select Actions, then Edit.
- Change its type, Mixing Policy, switches, capacity or name.
- Select Save changes.
To take a location out of use, flag it for maintenance instead of editing it.
What each Location Type rules out
| Location Type | Always off |
|---|---|
| Standard Storage, Storage Area, Bulk Storage, Pallet Rack, Pick Face (Active), Returns Processing | Nothing: you set each switch |
| Receiving Dock, Staging Area, Shipping Staging, Shipping Dock, Quarantine | Is Allocatable: orders never reserve stock there |
| Red Tag, Pack Station, Held Parcels | Can Pick, Can Putaway and Is Allocatable |
A Pack Station Location has no label size of its own. Its labels print on the paper its station sets, on Warehouses › Stations: see Set up a station.
What happens next
Stockist checks a location's switches, Mixing Policy, Hazard Compliance and Volumetric Capacity before any stock goes into it. Stock that breaks one is refused, with the reason.
Each warehouse needs a Red Tag Location that is Active before orders can be released. Next, print the location's label.
